Jan. 16: Application deadline for faculty, graduate students

The University of Delaware’s Center for the Study of Diversity is seeking proposals for small research grants to support projects by faculty members and graduate students focused on diversity, equity and inclusion at the University.

The application deadline is Monday, Jan. 16, at 5 p.m.

The center, which is part of the College of Arts and Sciences, makes grants available each year for research, analysis and public scholarship projects in a wide range of disciplines, including the arts, humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. With these funds, the center aims to facilitate wider understanding of the social and academic impacts of diversity and to inform and support diversity practices within the community.

In 2017, the center is seeking proposals that are exclusively focused on some aspect of the campus climate for diversity at UD.

Scholars are encouraged to make connections between their proposals and specific aspects of campus climate mentioned in “Inclusive Excellence: Action Plan for Diversity at UD” and/or in President Dennis Assanis’ strategic principle of “Building an Environment of Inclusive Excellence.” For more about the University’s diversity plans and principles, visit this website.

Faculty diversity research grants

Faculty members are strongly encouraged to submit applications for these competitive awards and to seek matching funds from their departments. Grants of up to $5,000 each will be awarded to faculty proposals, with priority given to projects that meet the 2017 special theme and support the center’s mission.

Faculty grants will support worthy projects in the following areas:

Public Scholarship/Community Engagement — Scholarly based projects that involve students partnering with organizations beyond the walls of the University on goals and issues that impact UD’s campus climate for diversity.

Research/Data Analysis — Original research and/or secondary data analysis that examines diversity issues and practices on campus and their implications for and applications to UD’s campus climate for diversity.

Policy Analysis/Research — Analysis of UD policy implications of diversity-related documents/published papers, public and/or campus policies and institutional programs.

More details are available at the CSD faculty grants website, where a complete package of application materials can be downloaded.

Graduate student diversity research grants

In addition to faculty grants, grants of up to $1,500 each will be awarded to UD graduate students, with priority given to projects that further the mission of the Center for the Study of Diversity.

Graduate student grants will support worthy projects in the following areas:

Campus Climate — Projects that examine factors that affect student (graduate and/or undergraduate) success at UD. Partnerships among diverse groups on campus are highly desirable.

Research/Data Analysis — Original research and/or secondary data analysis that examines diversity issues and practices on UD’s campus and their implications for and applications to UD.

Policy Analysis/Research — Analysis of UD policy implications of diversity-related documents/published papers, public and/or campus policies and institutional programs.

More details are available at the CSD graduate student grants website, where a complete package of application materials can be downloaded.
