Public Scholarship

The application of public scholarship to diversity in higher education extends beyond the demographics of student and faculty composition. A public scholarship approach to diversity applies the disciplinary expertise of faculty and students to issues of concern and relevance to communities within the purview of the University. Since diversity is a reality and a cultural value i’s mission is to connect scholarship, research, teaching, and service to the broader community within which the University resides.

To further the Center’s approach, we have developed several projects that employ a range of methods related to various groups and community partners. Further, the diversity approach views public scholarship as integral to the role of faculty in the University and therefore advocates for its inclusion as a primary criterion for faculty evaluations.

We also provide updated information about the Imagining America project, which is a national consortium of universities dedicated to public scholarship and diversity in higher education.
